Why water?

• Almost 1 billion people do not have clean water to drink. (unicef.org)
• Every year more than 3.4 million people die as a result of contaminated water, lack of sanitation and poor hygiene. Almost all deaths, 99 percent, occur in developing countries. (WaterAndSanitationHealth.com)
• Lack of access to clean water and sanitation kills children at a rate equivalent to a jumbo jet crashing every four hours. (Water.org)
• It has been calculated that in South Africa alone, women in total travel the same distance each day as 16 times to the moon and back to fetch water for their families. (TheNation.com)

Project Update (23/11/2020):New sand dam built in Mbitini, Kenya!

Mbitini, Kenya, now has access to a new water source thanks to your donation. A new sand dam has been built on a sandy riverbed, which builds up sand to raise the water table and filter the water naturally. Community members and their families have contributed materials and physical labor to complete the project. The Water Project team trained them in various disciplines such as accounting, financial management, project management, group dynamics and operations management. They also conducted hygiene and sanitation training to teach skills such as soap making and improve behavior such as washing hands. Click here for more information.
